Almost every warehouse and manufacturing industry today uses forklift trucks in their business. Forklift trucks are essential equipment capable of lifting large weights at a time. It is actually a vehicle similar to a small truck having two metal forks in front commonly used for lifting cargo.
Usually, a forklift operator drives the forklift truck forward until the forks are pushed under the cargo. Once this is done, the forklift can be lifted several feet above the ground along with the cargo. The forks of a forklift truck are also known as tines or blades. These blades or tines are generally made from steel.
Forklift trucks are either powered by electricity, diesel or petrol. Electric forklift trucks however, rely on batteries for functioning. Petrol or diesel forklift trucks are sometimes faster and stronger then electric forklift trucks. However, they are a bit more difficult to maintain. Electric forklift trucks are great to use at warehouses as they do not emit noxious fumes like the gas powered machines.
Whilst forklift trucks are mostly used in warehouses, some are also meant for outdoor usage. The majority of rough terrain forklift trucks operate on petrol or diesel. Presently, rough terrain forklift trucks also have the highest lifting capacity, and their heavy duty tyres make it possible to drive on uneven outdoor surfaces.
