Forklifts and operator information

A forklift is a vehicle that is capable of carrying thousands of pounds of weight. It has two metal forks that are used to lift the cargo material that is usually loaded onto pallets.

A forklift should only be operated by an experienced driver. The forks pick the cargo up and lift it several feet in the air. Forklifts run on electricity, gasoline or propane. The electric ones use batteries and the gasoline and propane models run on fuel and hence are retarded as more heavy duty than the electric ones. However, these can be slightly more difficult to maintain and the fuel costs might add up. Easy maintenance electric forklifts are great for warehouses and do not give out toxic fumes like the other types.

The operators of forklifts must take precautions prior to driving them. They must be experienced enough in handling the controls and adequate training should be imparted before they use the forklift on their own. Forklift training programs are always imperative for drivers of these trucks and as such managers should always check their drivers are in possession of a licence before driving.
